There is a place in Dayton that most native Daytonians know about, but few can actually vocalize what it does. I’m referring to the Miami Valley Research Park. This park is 1,250 acres of land located in the Dayton suburbs of Kettering and Beavercreek and houses over 40 organizations that specialize mainly in technology and research. The first building was completed in 1985, and since then, 22 buildings in total have been built to accommodate the growth. The main goal of this park is three-fold:
- To foster and promote research, technological, scientific, and educational activities.
- To create or preserve jobs and employment opportunities.
- To improve the economic welfare of the metropolitan Dayton area.
I think it’s safe to say that the Research Park is doing a great job of all three! It is non-profit and financially self-sustaining with no public support. Not only that, it employs 4,400 people and has 3,000 students taking class because the park is also affiliated with 4 universities: Sinclair Community College, Wright State University, University of Dayton, and Central State University.
It’s designed to attract technology companies, research companies, and companies involved in technological products and services. Just in the last 9 months, there has been strong leasing activity which shows great promise for continued growth!
The Miami Valley Research Park also has a great location that is a short distance to I-675, the Greene shopping center, and has easy access to a wide range of housing options. It’s a great environment for companies and employees, and is excellent for employee retention and recruitment.
This park is an enormous part of what brings in new companies, jobs, stimulates the economy, and much, much more. It is a learning hub for students and has put Dayton on the map for the growing field of technology. To learn more about it, what they do, and events you can participate in, visit their website below!
